Frequently Asked Questions

How long does the program take to complete?

White Rock Academy is committed to results. We are not a Baby-Sitting service. We are in the business of changing lives and empowering students. Our program is designed to help youth recognize their strengths and weaknesses and give them the confidence to empower themselves. Because each youth comes to the academy with their own unique set of circumstances, the program can be successful in as little as one to twelve months. Students must demonstrate a long-term commitment to value-based living before they can graduate and return home.

What is the cost of the program?

Being in the Midwest offers many advantages as to the East and West coasts. One of those advantages is low overhead and excellent staff. We provide not only excellent care of students, but offer and implement many therapeutic models for change. The tuition for the program is slightly less than $4,000 per month with the first month slightly higher due to associated fees and start-up costs. Many scholarships and loan oprions are available each month to help off-set a portion of these costs. Please fill out our admissions application and contact our office to see if you qualify.

What type of students do you accept?

White Rock Academy accepts most students who are struggling with behavioral problems. However, we feel a child who may be actively suicidal, or experiencing any serious mental illness, requires more acute and specialized clinical attention and would be better served in a clinical setting. Additionally, we do not accept any student who has a serious medical condition that would prohibit them from participation in regular program activities. We also deny any student who has a history of serious physical violence or sexual perpetration. If you have any questions about our admission criteria, please call to verify.

Since there is both a girls program and a boys program, do I need to worry about my child?

No! Even though White Rock Academy accepts both male and female clients, the male and female programs are non-integrated. This means that our facilities have seperate sleeping units for males and females, seperate classrooms during school time, and daily schedules are set up to have meals and entertainment at seperate times as well. We believe in keeping the male and female residents completely separated with the exception of a rare group activity or service project in which our highly trained staff are present to prevent any incidents.

What will my child do all day?

As you can see, White Rock has a wonderful facility with a limited population. Each day is structured with accredited academics, positive peer culture, multiple therapeutic avenues, chores, animal interaction and recreation. Students will experience the natural rewards of increased happiness that inevitably follow.

What do they bring with them?

With the admission process, a detailed list will be provided.

Is visitation allowed?

Visitation from parents and family is highly recommended. Interaction with family members allows us to evaluate the progress of your child with regards to how they will interact when they return home. Proximity and time constraints may not always make visitation possible. Please call our program and speak with an admissions specialist to discuss our visitation policy.

Does White Rock Academy accept medical insurance?

It depends on the individual plan. Contact your insurance provider to confirm if residential treatment is covered under a mental health plan. Also, if you have an HMO, confirm that they cover mental health benefits out of your network area. Or, call our admissions staff for other options.

Do you offer scholarships?

Yes, we offer many scholarships each month. Our admission staff can help you with many financial plans, and give you some insight on tax deduction and billing to your insurance co. to help offset the cost of residential treatment.

When can we send our child?

White Rock Academy has an open enrollment policy. You can place your child at any time, any day of the year. Our admission staff can help in this process.

What about my child’s medical needs?

Under the direction of a licensed physician and a registered nurse, White Rock Academy will provide any ongoing medical and dental care as needed by each youth. Services may include routine exams, emergency medical assistance, administering of medications, vision care, etc. All medical services will be billed to the parent’s health insurance plan when services are performed.

Can a student run away?

White Rock Academy students are under 24-hour supervision. Students are never left alone or unsupervised. White Rock Academy is “staff secure,” assuring parents their child is safe.

What about school?

Our students continue their education as they proceed through our program. For more information on curriculum and credits, see the section entitled “Academics”.
